What Are You :: Appearance

Standing at approximately 5’7”, Ling is quite tall for a fifteen-year-old. Perhaps it has something to do with his Xingish heritage, but one can’t be sure, since he’s the only young Xingish male who has appeared in the series to date. He’s kind of built like a beanstalk in some ways, though he’s muscular enough to not be too skinny. He has long, black hair that he ties with a white tie so that it falls behind his head in a thick, bushy ponytail, while his long bangs hang in front of his face; all of his bangs point in one direction at any given time, and sometimes they are used to cover one of his eyes. Said eyes are brown, though extremely squinty; half the time, it looks as though he has his eyes shut.

As for his taste in clothing… at the moment when he’s brought into Econtra, he’s wearing his favorite open brown shirt, of Xingish design, underneath a long, black coat that splits slightly in the back. His wrists are wrapped in a grey sort of cloth, to add an extra layer of protection there. He has no shirt covering his chest, which has his sword hilt strapped across it. He wears a pair of khaki-colored slack-like pants, light and maneuverable enough to do battle in. As for shoes, he wears a pair of slipper-like black shoes.

When he’s pulled into Econtra, of course, Ling is quite injured from his recent battle with the homunculi Envy and Gluttony. Specifically, he has three or four broken ribs, too many bruises and scratches to count all over the place, and open cuts on his chest, knees, and a rather long one on the left side of his face.

What Are You Like :: Personality

Ling likes to make people think that he’s careless and less observant than he actually is. He always tries to smile to keep up that façade, though it’s also because he’s trying to make up for his exceedingly squinty eyes, which he’s rather sensitive about. Even if it weren’t for his eyes, however, he tends to play up the foolish carefree person act as much as he can – it gives him an advantage against his enemies, sometimes, when he then shows off in battle that he can, in fact, be serious when he wants to be. He is also highly protective of his friends and subordinates. Though fairly obsessed with obtaining the power of the Philosopher’s Stone, he wants it so that he can make Xing a better place for all of the citizens, and so that he can protect those he cares about.

What Can You Do :: Abilities and Strengths

Being a possible heir to the throne, Ling was trained at an early age to be able to defend himself from assassins, as well as in basic prince-ly manners and stuff. Therefore, he is not only good diplomatically (when he wants to be), but he is also agile, quick, has a high stamina, and is good with a sword.

Also, though he tends to hide it behind a play of silliness and innocence, Ling is actually quite observant and intelligent. He’s brilliant with coming up with battle tactics, as well as plans to get certain things to happen a certain way. He was the one who figured out how to capture the homunculus Gluttony, after all.

Though he isn’t at all skilled alchemically, Ling has a bit of a sixth sense. This allows him to sense strong auras, as well as to tell when there’s a strong concentration of souls in any given person. This has been particularly helpful to him in the past for tracking the homunculi.

What Are Your Failings :: Weaknesses

Ran Fan, his bodyguard. She is his greatest ally, and his best friend. (Perhaps even more than a friend). He would do anything, even risk his own life and the fate of his entire mission, in order to save her if her life was in danger. He is absolutely unwilling to harm her, and will freeze up if he seems about to attack someone who looks just like her. (He almost died because of that one…) And if she does get hurt, he does everything he can to make sure that it was not in vain.

Ling is, of course, only human. (This would have changed about an instant after he was brought to Econtra, but that’s not the point.) Therefore, he is mortal and easily affected by the elements. Also, even though alchemy is a highly useful skill in his world, he doesn’t know how to do it. He also has a surprisingly low amount of stamina when he becomes hungry. When he does, he is prone to fainting and being unable to move until he gets something to eat. (And he tends to eat a lot, much to others’ chagrin.)

What Have You Gathered :: Notable Possessions

Ling doesn't have all that many specific possessions. However, he does have a small collection of Duel Monsters cards (because he's been learning how to play the game), as well as a Dao requisitioned from the Indigeo. He also has a small pebble created for him by OU Belldandy - it's a Philosopher's Stone, though in the religious shrine corner-stone sense of the word, rather than what he's looking for. He keeps it with him for good luck.
